I am a PhD Candidate at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) and affiliated with University of Amsterdam. My PhD focuses on big data analysis and design of data warehousing systems for that purpose.
Besides all technical work, PhD is actually about being an independent researcher/engineer. Hence, in the course of last 4 years, I have been doing the following myself: Exploring-identifying requirements & problems, designing-integrating systems, experimenting-evaluating in real-world scenarios, etc. Moreover, I have been writing down all that work, marketing and selling it and presenting it, etc. Additionally, I have been collaborating with other researchers, and delegating work to them if they collaborate in my project. At the same time, I have been reporting to my supervisors and getting advice when necessary.
Growing up in the challenging atmosphere of the Middle East, I developed skills that make me accept challenges, rather than escaping, which makes me have a definite affinity working with technical challenges as well as social challenges. First of all, technically, I have had diverse experiences. For example, since I got my bachelor's degree in engineering, I have done many projects using C++, Java, and many other languages on different platforms. Moreover, I have worked on distributed frameworks (e.g. Hadoop), data mining, big data analytics, open-source development, data warehousing, and on complex software systems (e.g. MonetDB). They provide a wide diversity of challenges on data and engineering. Second of all, in my social life, I have been most of time in a managerial or organizational role. For example, I was member of administrative boards and even president at some student associations. Together with my technical success, these show my goal-oriented, passionate, and decisive personality with analytical thinking, team work and group management abilities.
